In today’s Construction Industry there is an increasing requirement to provide clients with formal evidence of competence and nowhere more so than in the roofing industry. There are numerous opportunities and methods of proving competence for site based roofing operatives.
The Institute of Roofing provides attractive opportunities for managers, supervisors, technicians and sales orientated members of roofing contractors, manufacturers and distributors to prove their competence by achieving nationally recognised qualifications. These qualifications are achieved by studying for and sitting Licentiate and Associate Examinations, the syllabus for which is set out in the syllabus knowledge or by contacting external Training Providers who provide training courses that lead up to these examinations. The new format of the Syllabus Knowledge Requirements makes it much easier for individuals to understand the detailed requirements for both examinations.
All Training Providers use vastly experienced tutors to teach or coach students in all areas and subjects geared specifically for roofing knowledge such as Health & Safety Legislation, Business Management, Contracts Management and Supervision, Financial and Contractual Legislation, Construction Related Regulations, Surveying, Structures and Materials together with specific training on the numerous roofing disciplines from flat through pitched and the various specialities within.
For Associate Exams there are three papers:
Paper1A – covers seven areas to include Health & Safety, Basic Business Procedures, Employment Legislation, Principles of Contract Law, Measurement and Accounting for Work, Thermal, Insulation and Fire Protection, Economics and Final Accounting.
Paper1B - covers five areas to include Health & Safety, General Management & Supervision, Design Requirements, Estimating, Costings, Finance and Overheads – in more depth than Licentiate.
Paper2 – is discipline covers five areas to include Health & Safety, General Management & Supervision, Design Requirements, Estimating, Costings, Finance and Overheads – in more depth than Licentiate.
The knowledge gained by attending appropriate courses and passing these exams will contribute to the evidence required for the Construction Contracting Operations NVQ Level 3.
