Minutes of the of the Inaugural Meeting/Seminar - 7th April 2011

Apologies for absence: Gordon Penrose IoR President, Danny Harkin MD D Harkin and Co Roofing Ltd, both gentlemen had to attend a funeral of a colleague whose mother died earlier in the week.
In the absents of a chairman and secretary for the region of Ireland as no meetings were recorded in the last 18 years Mr James Slater FIoR carried the role of chair, James welcomed all members and non members to the Inaugural meeting or better titled as a seminar.
James conveyed Gordon Penrose apologies and best wishes to everyone attending the meeting and introduced the past present Lord Glentoran who for many years was the managing director of Redland Tile and Brick Ltd in Northern Ireland.
Lord Glentoran welcome all member at the meeting and give his overview of the Institute of Roofing and the important role of training and development of personal within the roofing industry, very pleased to see such a large turnout and support for the Institute within Ireland.
James provided the history of the Institute together with his vast experience of 30 years servicing and supporting this very important organisation.

IoR Governor & Education Committee – Geoffrey Parkinson FIoR
Geoffrey explained his role within the Roofing industry in Northern Ireland, employed as a Director of Training at the NFRC Training Centre which is leased from CITBCSNI. The centre provide all programmes from management to apprentice training schemes, also manages a Roof Training Group with partnerships including contractors and manufacturers products in up skilling roofers :-
• Courses and Training available within the UK & Ireland provided examples of IoR Courses and cost
• Training Provision at the NFRC Centre, 17 Dundrod Road, Crumlin
• Outcomes, Qualifications from IoR and NVQ, the centre is accredited by CAA for NVQ
• Grants up to 75%and explained Costs- Training programmes for the Roofing
Industry are grant approved by CITBCSNI
General Discussion
James presented the produces available from the institute mouse mats, Institute Ties, access to legal advice, insurance packages and healthcare as some of the examples that were explained.
• Discussion about the future and the possibility of establishing Irish Committee for the IoR, everyone supported the recommendation but no one volunteered for the post of Chair and Secretary from the meeting other than Geoffrey Parkinson could carry out these duties until the next meeting
• James and Martin thanked the delegates/members for their support at this inaugural regional meeting for the large turnout and offered future support and help at other events if required
• 12 applications for membership was taken from the meeting follow up contacts will be carried out to provide help and completion
• Geoffrey Parkinson thank everyone for their support in attending the meeting especially James and Martin for their input of valuable information and also the appreciation of the effort in the very early start to fly to Northern Ireland and deliver a very professional presentation.
