5. Grade of Membership

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA – APPROVED OCTOBER 2007.

FELLOWS – Every Fellow shall:
	i)	have served 5 years as a Member of the Institute.
	ii)	have attended interviews to agree the applicant’s suitability and check the suitability and proposed thesis content. 
	iii)have completed the thesis on the agreed roofing related subject, according to IoR requirements, attended interviews to present the thesis and gain Board approval of their application for Fellowship by Thesis OR

i)	have served as a Member of the Institute for 5 years and have a minimum of 15 years in the Industry of which 5 years are at the level of senior management. 
	ii)	submit an upgrade application form, sponsored by 2 Fellows, together with a detailed curriculum vitae, showing evidence of competence, knowledge and senior management experience.

Please note there is no direct entry at Fellow grade.

MEMBERS – Every Member shall:
    i)	have a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the roofing industry.
    ii)	submit an application form, together with a detailed curriculum vitae showing evidence of suitable ability, training and relevant experience to justify exemption from the Associate membership examination
    iii)be sponsored by two Fellows of the Institute.

ASSOCIATES – Every Associate shall:-
    i)	Have passed the Associate examination detailed in 3.8.OR
    ii) Have the necessary relevant qualifications and level of competency required by the Institute, to give full exemption from the examination.

LICENTIATES – Every Licentiate shall:-
    i)	Have passed the Licentiate examination detailed in 3.8. OR
    
    ii) Have the necessary relevant qualifications and level of competency required by the Institute, to give full exemption from the examination.

AFFILIATES – Affiliation to the Institute is open to those individuals who are new to the roofing industry or who do not qualify for direct entry. They must complete an application form and be sponsored by 2 members of the Institute. They will be affiliated for 5 years and in this period will be expected to study and take the examinations leading to either the Licentiate or Associate grades. Affiliation is not a grade of membership and Affiliates are entitled to attend general meetings of the Institute, but are not entitled to vote.
